Frances Wright
October 30, 1938 – February 11, 2010

Frances was a lovely, soft-spoken lady who joined the Valley Quilt Guild in the early 1990’s. She was a vital part of the Thursday Stitchers (which her husband, Del, always referred to as the “Thursday Sisters”) because Frances was committed to community service by making quilts for needy foster children.

Frances became a quilter, quite by accident. In 1990??  When Frances’ mother was looking for a hobby after the death of her husband, Frances enrolled them both in a quilting class at Yuba College. It was Frances who became hooked on quilting and her mother who dropped out of the class. Shortly afterward, Frances joined the Valley Quilt Guild and became an active member.

Frances became proficient at machine quilting as she kept busy making quilts for community service. Occasionally she would machine quilt for one of her fellow quilters and these special projects are a memorial to a gracious friend and generous quilter.

As an ovarian cancer survivor, Frances engaged the Thursday Stitchers in creating blocks for ovarian cancer awareness from the fabric of Blank Textiles. With the help of all of the Thursday Stitchers a quilt top was completed just shortly before Frances’ passing. Even in her grave illness, she was cheering the quilters on to completion.
