25th Annual VQG Quilt Show 2008

Our 25th Anniversary Quilt Show was on March 15th and 16th and turned out to be a huge success! This year there was some special events to celebrate 25 years of annual shows. The Valley Quilt Guild has grown from a handful of women in 1981 to over 150 members this year.

APPRAISALS:  For the first time in Valley Quilt Guild history, the public had the opportunity of having their quilts appraised by Dawn Licker.

JUDGING:  Also for the first time in 25 years, members who entered quilts in this show had the option of having their quilts judged by a professional quilt judge. Helen Shaw Powell, the 2008 VQG Quilt Judge, has an impressive judging background and experience. She has taken the NQA short course on Judging, co-authored the former NCQC Course on Judging Quilts & Wearable Arts and is an inspiration to quilters everywhere. The class in which a quilt was judged is noted on the description card.

MEMORY LANE: This anniversary show featured some of the past years’ Viewers Choice winners. Included in this first row of memorable quilts was the first quilt made and hand quilted by the VQG members in 1983. It helped (along with the cookbook) raise the initial funds for the first show in 1984.
